PKRA Stopp Argentinien 4. Tag
It was a spectacular fourth day of competition here in Lake Nahuel Huapi. The men’s and women’s freestyle double eliminations got underway exactly on time at 11:00am this morning.
The wind was yet again in full force and competitors were out on their smallest kite sizes, mostly on 7m. Dutch rider Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) had nothing less than a successful day defeating fellow slingshot teammate and single eliminations winner, Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS) twice in the men’s double elimination final. Zoon wins his first full PKRA event title this season here in Bariloche by executing super powerful tricks in his stylish fashion such as a risky mega loop with a late 360 rotation. The wind conditions today were forceful to say the least making some tricks extremely dangerous for all competitors. Yates, rode powerful heats but unfortunately crashed a few times during the final earning him second place in the doubles. French rider Sebastian Garat (RRD, FRA) also had a rewarding day by impressing the judges in two consecutive heats with his clean executions in risky wind conditions earns a third place title.
In the women’s division, freestyle single eliminations winner Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP) defeats Bruna Kajiya (Flexifoil, BRA) in the double elimination final. Both riders are no stranger to powerful tricks however Pulido earns yet another event title while Kajiya takes second place here in Bariloche, Argentina. Polish rider Karolina Winkowska (Slingshot, POL) had a few nifty tricks up her sleeve landing complex tricks such as a 313 and blind judge in her heat against Kajiya but would not be enough to move her up the ladder. Winkowska will be taking home third place.
The final discipline of the day was the long distance race. Racers rushed out on the extremely choppy water in hopes of speeding across the finish line first. What a site to see watching these brave racers overpowered on 7m kites skimming above the water surface at high speeds. These fierce and gnarly racing conditions did not stop John Heineken (Ozone, USA) or Caroline Adrien (Cabrinha, FRA) who managed to cross the finish line first. Out of the six regular races and the one long distance race held today, both Heineken and Adrien managed to finish first in six of the combined seven races.
The wind forecast for tomorrow is predicting excessively strong wind speeds ranging anywhere from 40 to 50 knots. Let’s see what’s in store at the skippers meeting tomorrow morning at 10:00am.
